David Johnston, the Governor General of Canada, inspired a new initiative to improve Canada called Smart and Caring Communities.  He believes that this can be done through starting at the community level by encouraging philanthropy, volunteerism, and focusing on education. The Community Foundation of Canada (CFC) is a key player in bringing this ideal into fruition. The CFC is a non-profit organization that through managing endowment funds, helps communities sustain themselves long term. The Community Foundation of Prince Edward Island is also supporting this mission and is currently finding ways to implement it in local communities.
