Being the first social enterprise for entrepreneurship has it’s advantages. Of course the first advantage is that you get to say you are the first. The second advantage is that you are able to trail-blaze and define the concept as you see it.

So what does it mean to be a social enterprise?

A social enterprise can be defined as an organization that applies commercial strategies to maximize improvements in human and environmental well-being, rather than maximising profits for external shareholders.1

What is a social enterprise for entrepreneurship?

When we set out to build, invest and develop a community-based organization for entrepreneurship, we knew there were a lot of businesses working towards similar goals. What we would like to see on PEI is like-minded organizations working on shared goals. That’s why we are here. To help make those linkages, see how the dots connect and work with national, regional and local organizations at a community level. We at BID Inc. would like to be part of a new movement of social entrepreneurs.

Our goal is to build, invest and develop a new kind of entrepreneur on PEI. To provide the mentorship and guidance to startups, immigrants and young entrepreneurs as well as give strategic advice to existing businesses on how they can become social enterprises and incorporate social responsibility into their daily operations.

We believe that in order to do great things, we have to do good work.
